Final Display!

Today I finished my final display and got all my prints mounted onto the wall. It took almost the whole to paint the wall, put in 240 nails, then paint the nails (I didn't like how much the stood out against the wall) then finally put the prints up with magnets. Originally I wanted as many prints up as possible but as I was putting them up as I found that 3 rows looked better than 4 it looked cleaner.
The was so many different dramas with putting the work up at first I wasn't allowed to use the ladders, then I wasn't allowed to use certain nails but it in the end I think it was all for the best because it meant that I refined the prints and picked the best ones to go on the wall. Also, the rows are just above eye level, at eye level, and just below eye level this means that people aren't having to look right up to see them, which I like they can take their time to look at them.

Last Week!

Scary to think this is our last full week at college! I've got most things done, just need to finish my sketchbook, tidy up my research folder then obviously put up my final piece but that'll be done next week. For the most part the past weeks haven't been as bad as I thought they would be, I've been on top of most things and I'm happy that I had my final prints finished in advanced because it's meant that this week I could get on with final touches, statements that needed to be typed up, rather than being stressed trying to finish everything. I feel that my time management skills have really stepped up through this brief, so I'm that'll be a skill I'll be able to take with me into other courses.

Layers

Something that I've been experimenting with is having different layers of paper, ink, paint and acetate on top of each other and whilst I think the outcome is quite good I think that the pieces can end up looking quite muddled, I want to have something that is more succinct.
At the minute I feel that I've been looking at all these different things that has meant that my work has gotten muddy, so I want to whittle down what I've got to work out what is going to be best for getting my point across.

Since it's looking like we'll be able to put up our protest stuff even if it's just for a little while I've been coming up with some exhibition display ideas:

Working on my chair!

This turned out to be a fair bit more difficult than I expect but it's getting there.

I feel like the colours have turned out really bright which I'm happy about but the biggest problem that some of the pieces of would weren't holding with just glue, so then I changed to nails but then that wasn't working so I switched to screws so hopefully it'll work out this time!

Final Presentation

That's the final presentation done and dusted! I think it went quick well I managed to slow it down at the beginning so that it sounded less rushed. I feel the key to giving a pecha kucha is to pin point out the vital information and make sure you say that, so anything else is just an add on or gives extra information or context.

Transformation New Final Piece

So, as I had to re-do my final piece for Transformation I decided that I didn't want to change it up too much as I didn't want it to look completely different to the rest of my work. So I decided to create 3 smaller collages (A4) to show the transformation, change from a more natural Britain to the industrial revolution to present day. I preferred having 3 separate pieces as I feel it was easier to show what I wanted and it was easier to represent the changes I've been researching.

Also I'm happy with how the colours blend together but show the progression, it starts off mostly bus and greens then to greys and browns then to more black.

Transformation Disaster

So today was the day of the hand in for Transformation, which should have went a lot better than it did. However I pretty this was the work I've handed in for a project so far. I feel that I completely lost enthusiasm with it as we've been working on this project since September which I personally think is far too long, I also kept putting off doing work for it on the basis that we have ages, which soon became a problem when time caught up with me.
So I did what I always do when I'm stuck in a bad position, I panicked. Which is probably the worst thing I could do as I spent far too long on the finally piece and didn't get round to annotating my sketchbooks enough. However at least I did do it and the final piece did get finished but it wasn't to the best standard it could've been.
This isn't however why I'm unhappy with the work that I handed in it;s because I feel that I didn't do the project justice: if I didn't enjoy using a media I completely brushed it off, I didn't do as much experimentation as I possibly could've and I stuck with what I knew. At the beginning on the year I really enjoyed learned new techniques and how to use different medias (such as silk paper, felt making and plaster casting) however as the weeks went on I slowly began to lost interest and I'm not sure why. I don't really have anyone to blame but myself, another problem that came up a lot in this project was that I couldn't ask for help. Or more so that I felt I couldn't ask for help I'm sure if I did the lecturers would've have been happy too. This has been something that I've really struggled with and that I'm not to sure how to get over.
Admitting that I'm struggling has been something that I detest doing, so I rather stubbornly will quite going myself even if I've no clue what I'm doing. Although in a way I feel that day sort of needed to happen as looking back at this past year and looking at the work I handed in I've spotted several problems in the way that I work so I want to work on these and try my best to over come them. That's the plan any way, so whilst I'm quite disappointed in myself it has given me a new goal to work on to hopefully improve myself and my work.

On the wall!!

Today we handed in all our drawing work and I'm pretty happy with the drawings that I created. We even got to put them up on the wall which I was quite pleased about as it was the first time that our class had had work on the wall. I'm quite happy with the way that I presented my work and I hope that I get a decent grade!

Finished my helmets!!

I'm so pleased with how these turned out! They took a lot longer than I originally thought they would and I think my sketchbook may have been left a little because of that but I still really happy with the result.
